I am looking for thorns to use in artwork. I know there are trees such as the Silky Floss Tree that has large thorns but I know there must be others I can use. I am hoping to gain access to rose stems with thorns so I can strip them. Does anyone have any ideas for how I might find masses of different kinds of thorns? Many thanks for feedback.

Dear Seisler, fellow artist. I am intrigued as to what your plan is? There is a tree, large shrub with vicious thorns that has orange berries, don't know what it is called though. Are you in Sydney? One of the fruit blossom trees also has thorns. Blackberry has thorns. There are actually lots of exotic plants with thorns that maybe are being removed for bushcare reasons that people would gladly give you.

    Hi Marty,
I am in Brisbane. I see you are in Sydney. Thanks very much for the offer for the thorns. Although given the difference in locations it may be difficult to get them ;-(
Best wishes for your plans ;-)

    Hi Strawberry,

I live in Brisbane and work in sculpture and plan to use them with my work. I am grateful to know about the blackberry and will also look up fruit trees that may have thorns. Perhaps I should contact bushcare people? I could offer to remove the thorns for them. Many thanks for your feedback. ;-)

If you are in Brisbane, there are plenty of people that grow plants such as roses, bougainvillea, citrus trees, etc. You could try driving or walking around the neighbourhood and asking at any houses you see these plants at.Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to use it in a fruit salad

Hi, not exactly sure but just maybe you could ask a local florist as many of them discard their thorns before selling roses etc... just a thought

Hi Seisler, I also do sculpture and have just been accepted into a recycled materials artshow. I would be interested to know how your project is going or even see a photo?

A word of warning about Bougeovillia thorns they are poisonous to your skin if pricked they cause a nasty ucler looking sore that requires anti biotics if its serious. I knew a bloke who pruned them around his place he was pricked many times and was covered in dreadful sores for a few weeks needing medication when they didn't heal.
